Knowing your customers can be crucial. It can help you understand what they like/dislike about your business, their interests and where they found out about you.
Collecting this type of information has never been easier, as we are so spoilt with all of the survey tools at our expense. You can integrate your MailChimp with tools such as Survey Monkey, Google Forms or Typeform within the Integration area. But did you know that MailChimp also has its own survey tools?
Mailchimp Email Surveys - Learn more about your subscribers
MailChimp enables us to create short surveys/polls within an email itself using a survey merge tag, or on an independent survey link when you’d like to ask your audience further questions.
Below are just some of the benefits of using MailChimp for your surveys
1. Email Marketing Questions - Free Surveys FAST
It does not cost you anything extra to send surveys to your audience and the surveys are extremely easy to create. Just like within the email builder, you can create surveys using drag and drop. You also get a choice of what question styles you’d like to add – ie short answer, long answer, multiple choice etc.
2. Marketing Data - Reports and Data Patterns
Once your subscribers have filled in their questions, you do not need to read through each response one by one. All of the data can be found in the “Reports” section. Here all of the results are broken down and you can even see exactly which answers each email address clicked on. The reports section really helps generate an overview and allows us to search for any patterns in the data.
3. Mailchimp Segments and Automated/Unique Responses
The best thing about creating surveys within MailChimp, is that we can set automated responses based on which answers they clicked within the survey.
For example; we could ask the question – “Would you rate our customer service very good, good, average, poor or very poor”. Then we could set different automated responses based on which answer they picked. So for the people who clicked “very good”, we may want to send them an automated email which tries to get them to leave a review on Trustpilot or Google reviews. And if they clicked on “very poor”, we may want to send an email which apologises and gives the customer a discount on their next purchase to incentivise them to try your company again.
In fact, we can even create Segments based on our audience's responses, so we can target specific people in the future. For example, if you were a Travel Agents you may ask the question: "Do you prefer to holiday within the UK, or abroad?" Then you could automatically build two segments based on these two answers, which would help you target your future holiday advertising email campaigns.

How can we make Mailchimp surveys a success?
In order to make your email surveys successful, you need to make sure your questions are clear, to the point and that you don’t have too many questions. As I have mentioned before, our attention spans are as low as they have ever been. No one wants to spend an hour filling out your survey. Keep it to yes/no and multiple-choice questions where you can and then maybe ask for an additional details question towards the end, which enables users to type in further detail.
Also, just like you would with any other campaign - ensure your subject lines are clear, ensure you don’t include lots of large emails and try not to use “spammy” language.
